Will my eyes need to be dilated?

Dilation is rare at iDoctor. Patients who choose Optomap retinal imaging almost never need dilation, though your doctor may recommend it based on your symptoms, eye health or exam findings. Ask our team how to plan if dilation is recommended.

What are the contact-lens exam fees?

In addition to the $99 eye exam, self-pay contact-lens exam fees are $75 for spherical, $120 for toric, $150 for multifocal or monovision, and $150 for rigid gas permeable (RGP) lenses. Your insurance benefits and out-of-pocket cost require individual verification.

What should I have ready for a benefits check?

Have your insurance card or plan information ready, along with the reason for your visit. Tell our team whether you are planning an exam, glasses or contact lenses. We can help review your eligibility, copays, allowances and any separate fees before your visit.

Ask our team about your benefits
What if I have both vision and medical insurance?

Mention both plans when you contact our team. We can help review the benefits relevant to your visit. Coverage, copays and allowances depend on your individual plans and require verification.

What if my vision plan is not listed?

Health insurers often partner with vision providers. Even if your card names a health insurer or your provider is not listed, you may have benefits through one of our accepted vision plans. Share your plan information so our team can help check your coverage.

How much will my prescription lenses cost?

Your quote depends on your prescription, lens design, material, treatments, frame and any insurance benefits. Our team will review the available combinations and your quote before you order.

How do single-vision and progressive lenses differ?

Single-vision lenses have one prescription power, selected for distance, reading or another viewing task. Progressives combine distance, intermediate and near zones in one pair. Your prescription, frame and daily routine help our team compare the options with you.

Compare single-vision & progressive options
How are anti-reflective, tinted and polarized lenses different?

Anti-reflective coating helps reduce reflections from the lens surface. Tint adds darkness, while polarization helps reduce reflected glare from roads, water and similar surfaces. Ask our team about UV protection and the combinations available for your prescription and frame; darkness alone does not tell you the UV protection.

Understand lens treatments
Will light-adaptive lenses darken in the car?

Many photochromatic designs do not darken as much behind a windshield. Some designs also respond to visible light and can darken in the car. Tell our team if driving is a priority so we can discuss the particular lens option and whether separate prescription sunglasses would suit your needs.

Are scratch-resistant lenses scratch-proof?

No. Scratch-resistant coatings help protect lenses from everyday wear, but careful cleaning and storage still matter. Our optical team can explain how to care for your particular lenses.

What does All in One protection cover?

This optional plan provides one year of protection from purchase for selected eyewear damage. For covered items, it includes unlimited lens replacements and one frame replacement, with a copay for each replacement order. Loss and theft are excluded. Choose and pay for the plan when you buy your eyewear; Cartier has separate pricing. See the guide for coverage, prices and full terms.

What if I cannot get used to my new glasses?

Let us know if your new lenses do not feel right. A recheck is free within 60 days of your exam or eyewear pickup at iDoctor, whichever is later. Within 60 days of pickup, if an iDoctor doctor changes your prescription or you cannot adapt to single-vision or progressive lenses, one remake is available at no charge in the same frame. An iDoctor recheck and return of the original lenses are required. Requested changes to the frame, lens design, material or coatings are charged separately; see the guide for the full prescription-guarantee terms.

Read the prescription-guarantee terms
What are the deposit and return policies for glasses?

At least a 50% deposit is required, with the balance due at pickup. Custom orders are final and nonrefundable, and cannot be cancelled once sent to the lab. Review the ordering and pickup terms in our eyewear-care guide, or ask our team before you place your order.

Review ordering & pickup terms
Can I use my own frame for new lenses?

Please discuss your frame with our team before placing an order. If you supply your own frame, the risk of frame breakage during lens fabrication or fitting rests with you. We can talk through any concerns before you decide how to proceed.

Which payment methods do you accept?

We accept cash, Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Discover. Ask our team about flexible payment options or questions about paying for your visit or eyewear.

See practical payment information
When do my vision benefits reset?

Most vision benefits reset annually, and unused benefits do not roll over. Your own reset date, allowances and coverage depend on your plan. Ask our team to help review your individual benefits before planning an exam or eyewear purchase.

Review your vision benefits
How soon will you reply to a website message?

We reply to form messages within one business day. To choose an eye-exam time, use the online scheduler; sending a form message does not reserve an appointment.

Send a message or find the scheduler
Can I ask for thinner prescription lenses?

High-index 1.67 or 1.74 lenses are options to discuss with our optical team. Availability depends on your lens design, prescription and frame, so not every combination is available in every tier. We will help compare the suitable material and construction options for your pair.
