Prism Prescriptions

Prism prescriptions. Considered carefully.

What you see deserves time and attention. Dr. Saher Sayed works with prism prescriptions when appropriate, taking time to understand your symptoms, review your current glasses and carefully refine the prescription.

What prism does

A different direction for light.

Prism changes the direction of light passing through a spectacle lens. For some people with double vision caused by eye misalignment, it can help the two images work together.

It has a different purpose from the lens power used to correct nearsightedness, farsightedness or astigmatism, and it may be combined with that correction. Prism is not the answer to every cause of double vision; an examination comes first.

The details matter

Start with what you are experiencing.

Your symptoms

Explain when the problem began, whether it changes during the day and which activities bring it on. Tell Dr. Sayed about current prism glasses and anything that has changed since your last prescription.

Your actual glasses

Bring your current pair, previous prescriptions and any older glasses that worked well. These comparisons help put your experience into context rather than looking at a prescription number alone.

A considered next step

Dr. Sayed considers your history and examination findings before prescribing. The assessment may support prism, another prescription change or additional evaluation, depending on the cause.

Time to listen. Time to refine.

Your experience helps guide the prescription.

Longstanding vision difficulties can become familiar. Tell us even if you have learned to work around them, or assumed they were simply how you were meant to see. Describe the view in your own words, including what feels clear, doubled or uncomfortable.

Dr. Sayed takes time with prescription assessment and your responses during testing. The goal is a considered recommendation for your situation, with a clear explanation of what the glasses are intended to address and what may need further attention.

A few helpful answers

Before you decide.

Will prism correct every type of double vision?

No. Double vision has different causes, and prism is suitable for some situations. Finding the cause is essential; the examination may lead to a different recommendation or further evaluation.

Is prism simply a stronger prescription?

No. Prism changes light direction, while ordinary prescription power brings the image into focus. A pair of glasses may include both, based on the examination.

Can you assess my existing prism prescription?

Bring your current glasses, previous prescriptions and a description of what has changed or never felt comfortable. Dr. Sayed works with prism prescriptions when appropriate and will consider the findings before recommending the next step.

What if the double vision is new?

Arrange prompt medical assessment rather than waiting for a routine glasses visit. New or unexplained double vision should not be assumed to be only a prescription problem.

Bring the details
