Topcon KR-800 · Pretesting

A starting point
for your eye exam.

Autorefraction and keratometry provide useful measurements before your doctor-led assessment. Our Topcon KR-800 measures refractive power and the curvature of the front of your eye.

Same- and next-day appointments available.

Two measurements during pretestingA simplified eye and light rays illustrate refractive power. A curved front surface illustrates corneal curvature. This is an explanatory diagram, not an equipment image.Refractive powerCorneal curvature

Different measurements, different roles

Starting with information.

The KR-800 combines two types of measurement in one pretesting instrument. Your doctor considers the findings alongside your history and the rest of your examination.

Autorefraction

An automated estimate of your eye’s refractive power provides a starting point for prescription assessment. Your own responses during refraction remain important.

Keratometry

Measurements describe the curvature of the cornea, the clear front surface of the eye. These are considered in the context of your prescription and eye care.

During pretesting

Look ahead.
We guide the measurement.

Our team explains where to sit and look, then positions the instrument for the reading. Let us know if you have difficulty getting comfortable or maintaining your position.

Get positioned

Our staff guide your head position and explain where to look.

Take the measurements

The KR-800 obtains automated refractive and corneal-curvature measurements during pretesting.

Continue your examination

Dr. Sayed considers the measurements and your vision concerns. Digital refraction lets you compare lens choices with her.

A few helpful answers

Putting the results in context.

Does this replace refraction with the doctor?

No. Autorefraction provides an estimate. During refraction, your doctor considers your responses to different lens choices and the rest of your examination.

Is keratometry the same as corneal topography?

No. Keratometry measures corneal curvature. It should not be confused with a full corneal topography map.

What if I already wear glasses?

Bring them. We can use a lensometer to read the prescription in your current lenses, providing another useful point of comparison.

How do I book an eye exam?

Use our online scheduler to choose a date and review appointment options, even when the office is closed. Follow the steps in the scheduler to book your visit.

If your first selected day has no appointments, try another date. Open the online scheduler (opens in a new tab) →

Can’t find a suitable appointment?

If the scheduler doesn’t show a time that works for you, send our team your preferred days and times using the website contact form. We’ll follow up within one business day.

Sending a request does not reserve an appointment.

What if I don’t have vision insurance?

You can visit iDoctor with or without vision insurance. For current eye-exam and contact-lens service fees, send our team a question before your visit. We can also help you explore eyewear options for your budget.

What should I bring to my first visit?

Bring your current glasses or contact lenses, insurance card or plan information, photo ID and a list of your medications. Bring any questions you’d like to discuss, too.

How much time should I allow?

We schedule 30-minute eye exams so there is time for your questions. Allow extra time after the exam if you plan to choose glasses or contact lenses.
